Francis Leung
Artistic Director / Dancer |
Francis majored in Chinese Dance at The Hong Kong
Academy for Performing Arts where he was awarded a scholarship 1985. Upon
graduation in 1988, he was invited by Taipei National Institute of the
Arts to teach Chinese classical and folk dance.
In 1989, Francis joined the Hong Kong Dance Company and later received
a scholarship from the Asian Cultural Council to study at the University
of Hawaii. He joined the City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) in 1990
and toured with the company to China, Canada, the United States, Japan
and Korea. He danced the major role in company’s productions including
The Rite of Spring, Invisible Cities, Soirie Encore and Wanderings in
the Cosmos. In 1993, he was invited by Tsoying high school in Taiwan to
teach Chinese Dance and rejoined CCDC in the following year.
He joined DanceArt Hong Kong in 1995 as a core member and toured with
the company to Germany, Taiwan and the United States. He was also invited
to perform in Loose Pages from a Women’s Diary and Nine Songs by
CCDC and Falling Angel by Crossover of Taipei.
Francis is now the Artistic Director of DanceArt. His works
include A Different Room Unknown, The Regeneration from the Sterility,
Voices of the Wolves, Migration, A Journey in Solitude, One-third Woman,
Pry & Spy, The Good Woman of Szechwan (commissioned by Hong Kong Arts
Festival 98'), Mosaic of Memories, Merry-go-round, Mayflies in the City
(commissioned by Hong Kong Arts Festival 99’), Just You and Me (All
Independence Dance Series 99’)and Crossologue - In and Out (Millennium
All Independence Dance Series), Vinyl Tranquilizer – Railway Blue
and www.2000/1/1.unknown.
